“i̇qtisadiyyat” fənninin tədrisində məqsəd qeyri-iqtisad fakultələrində təhsil alan tələbələrin iqtisadi biliklər əldə etmələrinə bazar iqtisadiyyatı sistemində tələb olunan davranış qaydalarına yiyələnmək və onlara uygun fəaliyyət göstərmələrinə lazımi istiqamət verməkdir. eyni zamanda iqtisadi nəzəriyyənin əsas qanunlarını peşə fəaliyyətində tətbiq etmək; dünya və daxili iqtisadiyyatın inkişaf tarixini araşdırmaq; ölkəmizdə və dünyada baş verən iqtisadi prosesləri və hadisələri təhlil etmək; əqli inkişafnı, mədəni səviyyəsini, peşə səriştəsini yüksəltmək üçün iqtisadi reallığın idrak metodlarını və vasitələrini tətbiq etmək; peşə fəaliyyətinin sahəsini tənzimləyən qanunvericilik və normativ hüquqi aktlar sistemində hərəkət etmək; iqtisadi modellərdən istifadə edərək iqtisadi hadisələri təhlil etmək; bir işin (təşkilatın) xarici və daxili mühitini təhlil etmək üçün iqtisadi vasitələrdən istifadə etmək və s. bacarıqlara yiyələnməsinə kömək etməkdir.
