This course aims to develop fundamental theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the conceptual foundations, role, and significance of cybersecurity in the modern digital environment. The course introduces the concepts of cybersecurity and information security, their distinctive and interconnected characteristics, and the fundamental principles of protecting information systems, networks, and user data. Various cyberattack vectors and threat actors, as well as the concepts of vulnerabilities, threats, and risks, are examined together with the stages of the cyberattack chain and the technical and organizational security measures applied at each stage. Students are introduced to the fundamental methodologies of penetration testing, working in Linux environments, Open Source Intelligence (OSINT), network scanning, vulnerability identification and management, security assessment, and access control principles. The course also examines social engineering, DDoS attacks and defense mechanisms, web application and wireless network security, privilege management, ethical and legal aspects of cybersecurity, and the opportunities and risks associated with generative artificial intelligence technologies. The course is designed to develop students' initial practical skills in vulnerability analysis, security testing, evaluation of security assessment results, and report preparation, as well as their systematic and analytical approach to cybersecurity challenges.
